DOLE Oriental Mindoro Field Office headed by Engr. Juliana H. Ortega assisted two (2) workers in Calapan City to settle their claim for separation pay after their complaint of illegal termination against their employer. Through the conciliation-mediation process under Single Entry Negotiation Approach (SENA), settlement of money claims in the amount of Php144,000 was reached in only 14 days which started from filing of request for assistance on 04 January 2019. Such amount includes 13th month pay benefitting two (2) workers who claimed to work “all around” in a non-profit organization.

After reaching settlement agreement, the workers released and discharged their employer from money claims due to them in connection with their employment as evidenced by their voluntary execution of Quitclaim and Release in the presence of SENA Desk Officer. They also expressed appreciation for DOLE’s prompt and appropriate action on this.

Of this year’s first milestone on dispute settlement, Engr. Ortega explained that the department is indeed clothed with a mandate to “provide speedy, impartial, inexpensive and accessible settlement of labor issues arising from employer-employee relations; promote the use of conciliation-mediation in the settlement of all labor cases; and strengthen cooperation and coordination between and among DOLE agencies involved in dispute settlement” pursuant to Department Order No. 151-16.

Towards protection of workers, DOLE ensures the public of fair and expeditious settlement and disposition of labor disputes through the process of conciliation-mediation under SENA.
