Many of our OFWs were struggling to make ends meet as the COVID-19 Pandemic Crisis swept around the world. Almost all forms of labor were at a standstill, affecting our OFWs who were forced out of work, while some are  terminated and repatriated here in the Philippines. These brave OFWs continue to fight amidst these challenges to ease the uncertainties  and ensure the well-being of their families.

Hence, OFWs from the MIMAROPA Region appreciated the gesture of care from the Philippine government as they received Php 10,000.00 financial assistance to ease the woes of their families and aid them in our battle during these trying times.

A humble father from Puerto Princesa, Palawan can’t contain his appreciation as he thank the DOLE and OWWA, “Maiyak-iyak po ako sa sobrang saya. Malaking tulong po ito sa pamilya ko. Maraming maraming salamat po! Pagpalain po kayo ng Panginoon araw-araw.”, he said.

Another OFW from Oriental Mindoro also expressed his delight, as this financial assistance helped put food in the table for his family, “Salamat po sa tulong pinansyal at may pangbayad ng pagkain na mailalapag sa mesa. Napakalaking tulong po ito sa lahat ng mga na-stranded (na) OFWs at nawalan ng trabaho dahil sa krisis na ito. Maraming salamat po!”.

Even if faced by this crisis, our OFWs remained resilient as the DOLE and OWWA assist them in standing up once more. “The heartfelt appreciation given by the OFWs after receiving their financial assistance gives us strength to strive even more to help our dear OFWs in these trying times. Let us continue to fight this crisis together. Rest assured that our evaluators and our counterparts at DOLE MIMAROPA through the guidance of Regional Director Albert E. Gutib are working tirelessly 24/7 to process the DOLE-AKAP Financial Assistance.”  OWWA Regional Director Ma. Teresa B. Capa, stated.

“The DOLE and OWWA are joining hands to give the perfect gift of hope for our OFWs in this upcoming Labor Day Celebration”, Labor Secretary Silvestre H. Bello III added.

The DOLE Financial Assistance for Displaced Overseas Filipino Workers due to COVID-2019 or DOLE-AKAP is a one-time financial assistance amounting to Ten Thousand Pesos (Php 10,000.00) given to qualified displaced OFWs, specifically those who have lost their source of income due to the COVID-19 crisis.

Three hundred thirty nine (339) OFWs across the MIMAROPA region have already received their financial assistance, amounting to Php 3,390,000.00 as of 01 May 2020 in time for the International Labor Day. *END J.E.P.C / J.E.D.R
