Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Palawan Field Office awarded Php20,000.00 worth of rice to Ms. Edna J. Silverio for her “Edna’s Rice Buy and Sell” livelihood project last August 6, 2019 in a simple ceremony held at Ms. Silverio’s house located in Purok Masikap, Brgy. Abaroan, Roxas, Palawan. DOLE Palawan staff Ms. Shawn Casandrabelle Amaris De Castro personally handed the purchased items to Ms. Silverio for her rice trading business.
Ms. Silverio is a former Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) who was contracted for only two (2) years and was displaced due to the new policy and regulation in the country she is working at and now her only source of income comes from farming and this does not suffice the financial need of her family. The business provided by DOLE will serve as her alternative source of income with her eight children. She will be responsible in managing the daily operation of her rice trading business and will ensure that there will be proper records keeping.
Ms. Silverio was very glad on the assistance provided to her family by the Department. “I am really thankful to the livelihood grant given to me by DOLE because this would give additional support for me to be able to support my family. It is not easy to lose a job especially when you have already shell out a large sum of money just to go abroad to work”, she said.
After she received the project, she was shortly briefed on the policies and procedures on basic business management to ensure that she will be successful in her business endeavors. DILEEP Kabuhayan is a livelihood assistance package of the department to poor, vulnerable and marginalized workers, including displaced workers, in the formal and informal economies to start individual or group livelihood undertakings.
