The Department of Labor and Employment MIMAROPA through PaLawan Field Office and Occupational Safety and Health Center (OSHC) launched the 11th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan (GKK) and the Vision 1 Million Program. Discussion on the Implementing Rules and Regulations on Act Strengthening Compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) and Providing Penalties for Violations Thereof (RA 11058) is also one of the highlights participated in by various establishments in Puerto Princesa City last March 21, 2019. There were about 300 management and rank-and-file representatives in the public and private sectors who attended the said activity. It was held at VJR Hall, Provincial Capitol Building, in Puerto Princesa City, PaLawan.
The GKK is a national award given by the DOLE in recognition of the outstanding achievements of establishments and individuals in responding and keeping the safety and health needs of workers in their workplaces and community. The GKK is open to all private sector establishments, LGUs and government offices, micro-enterprises and informal sector, and safety officers/consultants nationwide. Winners have already been chosen for both regional and national levels wherein national winners recipient are from MIMAROPA Region. Ms. Charity Castillo won 2nd place for Sa Selfie for Safety and Health Photography contest and received Php30,000.00 check plus trophy and consolation prize winner Mr. Jeffrey Castillo for the same contest and received Php5,000.00 check. The two (2) national winners were from Rio Tuba Nickel Mining Corporation (RTNMC), Rio Tuba, Bataraza, PaLawan.
Likewise, the Vision 1 Million Program is a centerpiece program of the OSHC which aims to increase the number of OSH advocates who will continue to learn more and implement safety and health program, always abide the safe work practices and share vital information on OSH, not just to their colleagues, but to their families and communities as well. On the other hand, the IRR of RA 11058 has taken effect last January 25, 2019 and the DOLE and OSHC are aiming to disseminate information regarding the provisions of the Law which are the utmost concern to all employers and workers.
DOLE MIMAROPA Regional Director Joel M. Gonzales delivered the welcome remarks to the participants. OSHC Resource persons Ms. Diana Joy Romero discussed Orientation on Vision 1 Million, Engr. Bryan Paul Paraiso for Orientation on the 11th Gawad Kaligtasan at Kalusugan, and Engr. Concepcion T. Sto. Tomas talked about Orientation on DOLE D.O. 198 Series of 2018. Meanwhile, Mr. DJ Romero facilitated the awarding of winners of Himig Kaligtasan at Kalusugan and Selfie for Health and Safety. After the discussion, an open forum was facilitated to have a deeper understanding of the OSH Law.
